Rats and mice have adapted themselves well to living with humans in the same environment, this is why you may have heard the term commensal rodents. This is used to describe rodents that are generally found living in close association with humans and very often dependent upon us for their food, water and harborage. The word commensal means “to share the table.”
Rodents may not eat at our table but they do eat our food and in the process can cause contaminate much more of our food than they eat. These pests also carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans through bites, urine and feces or if we eat contaminated food. Add to that the damage rats and mice can cause by gnawing and these are some nasty critters.
